Furness Green Partnership has an extensive portfolio of projects in the UK. We provide mechanical, electrical and public health design solutions for the built environment. Our success is based on the quality of our staff and our professional engineers. We have a pragmatic approach to design and the delivery of practical and cost effective solutions.
Our design methodology always starts with development of passive strategies, including solar shading and daylight studies, assessing the potential for free cooling, and the use of computer modelling to predict air flow in and around buildings. We use dynamic thermal modelling when appropriate to assess natural ventilation. Our focus is always on reliable, sustainable and energy efficient designs.
We can provide façade performance studies, to enable optimisation of each orientation to help with meeting Building Regulations targets.
Energy in use accounts for around 90% of costs and emissions over a buildings typical life cycle. Effective mechanical and electrical services design is therefore crucial for long term performance and carbon/cost reductions. Effective design includes the development of systems for heating, cooling, ventilation, lighting, power and building energy management. Furness Green take a ‘systems engineering’ approach to whole building design, where we account for various design and operational work streams, that combine the requirements of the client, architect, structural designer and environmental engineers to provide a well considered product.
Our technical experience and expertise has developed from a diverse portfolio of projects, including corporate headquarters, universities, schools, theatres, housing, high and low-rise office buildings, laboratories, museums and, hotels and retail premises.

Vertical Transportation
READ MOREVertical Transportation
Lift and Escalator systems are becoming ever more complex and with the introduction of new technologies, the drive for economy in energy use, new products, revised standards and varying levels of performance. Furness Green are able to offer advice and a professional service from concept through to asset management. We use the latest Vertical Transportation software to analyse the flow of building occupants and the resultant use of vertical transport systems. Our specifications are performance based. This provides contractors with the maximum opportunity to offer their own research and develop products. This approach can offer the best value in terms of time and cost to the project when compared to more onerous specifications, whilst ensuring pre- determined performance parameters are met.
Through taking part in the design process and often acting as lead consultant for the vertical transportation package, we are able to monitor the contractor’s design development and co-ordinate with the design team, thereby keeping time and cost issues under control.
We employ experienced engineers, to carry out quality, compliance and progress checks through the duration of the design and installation as required, we witness tests carried out by the contractor in order to ensure full compliance with codes and specification and workmanship standards. Any defects are noted and a regime put in place in order for them to be rectified quickly working with the contractors towards zero defects at handover.

Technical Due Diligence
READ MORETechnical Due Diligence
Furness Green regularly undertake Technical Due Diligence surveys. Typically, surveys will be carried out by professionally qualified engineers. The disciplines attending site will depend on the exact nature of the building to be inspected but we will typically have one mechanical and one electrical engineer attend site for the duration of the survey. Where detailed Vertical Transport surveys are required we can provide a specialist VT Engineer. The format of our report will be tailored to the requirements of the client but in general, we will produce a report either as a stand-alone document or in sections to align with the building surveys standard format such that it can be integrated into one report to be published by the building surveyor. The scope of the inspection and report will typically include the following;
• Review of incoming utility services.
• Inspection of all central plant and major equipment •
• Inspection of services distribution systems
• Inspect a representative sample of the building accommodation (offices, hotel rooms, retail units etc.) including;
- Lighting
- Small power and data
- Fire Alarms
- H & V terminal devices e.g. radiators, fan coil units, grilles anddiffusers
- Hot and cold water systems
- Fire fighting / suppression installations
- Smoke ventilation systems
- Life safety systems – building services only.
• Inspect any significant ‘non-standard’ areas e.g. reception areas, restaurant facilities, leisure facilities.
• Review available O&M documentation
• Report on design standards and system design parameters
